One Big Step

If I had to write about one location in Edmonton it would have to be the AGA. Although there are a lot of places in the city that I love, the new AGA is probably one of my top five. There are a number of reasons why the new gallery is awesome; the new exhibits are great, the architecture, the location, and the people. Although all these things play into its appeal, the biggest thing is this gallery's ability to bring people in the city together. It seems to have exploded as this new place for people from all over the Edmonton to come together and just enjoy each other (and art of course). Tomorrow night they are hosting one of their Refinery parties and it is a sold out event. People seem to really want to go to these events and meet other people from Edmonton. I think it's great that the gallery has had the ability to create a sort of bond between people in this city. It is new, modern and fun and I think it is a big step toward Edmonton's future. Although it stands out like a sore thumb, being such a modern building (that looks like it belongs in New York or LA), I think it really shows the direction that Edmonton is headed in. Alot of young people want to leave this city because they feel it isn't cultured enough or modern enough, but the AGA is an obvious example of what is changing in Edmonton. It isn't something that people don't have to look for, it is just there, so there are no excuse not to go. If new buildings and places like this continue to pop up in the city, people will have no choice but to explore and reevaluate their previous opinions about the city.
